Graduate students are admitted
through the Scripps Institution of Oceanography
Graduate
Department to the Marine Biology curricular group. Students are usually supported
as
graduate research assistants on research grants or via fellowships awarded to
the student.
Prospective students are urged to apply for all fellowships for which they might
be eligible.

Postdoctoral researchers are usually supported by grants, or by postdoctoral
fellowships

prepare a proposal, usually with my help, to submit to the funding agency.

Undergraduate
Research
We usually host one
or two undergraduates in the lab during the academic year or during the
summer. Although we occasionally take independent volunteers, we give priority
to students
in the programs below:

Employment
We generally have two undergraduate lab helpers employed in our lab. These students
work 20
hours during the week and full-time during the summer. Duties include making
solutions, ordering
supplies, washing dishes, and keeping us organized. There are no openings currently.
Technical staff
Technical staff positions are advertised on the
UCSD job site.
Volunteers
Volunteers are welcome, we accept volunteers through the Birch
Aquarium program.
